UK Insurance Provider

A leading UK insurer had missed its go-live deadline for real-time pricing integration with comparison platforms, including Compare the Market, and still had no connectivity solution. Cloud Gateway had the first platform tenant live within three weeks of initial engagement, enabling the insurer to deliver real-time quotes via the channels their customers actually use.

Real-time pricing live in three weeks after
the original go-live deadline had already passed.

The architecture we put in place for the original AWS deployment transferred cleanly to Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle without needing to be rebuilt each time. For a group with multiple products to migrate, that consistency across environments makes a real difference.

The challenge

The insurer was overhauling its price comparison platform to deliver real-time pricing via third-party engines such as Compare the Market. The new pricing applications were being built in AWS, but the internal development team did not have the cloud and network expertise required to meet the architecture and security requirements needed to connect and integrate with third-party pricing applications.

The project was already running behind schedule, against both time and financial commitments. The team was dangerously close to their go-live date and still had no connectivity solution. The incumbent supplier had been unable to deliver.

What we did

Senior members of the insurer’s development programme were already familiar with Cloud Gateway through a recent piece of work for a major government department, which gave them early confidence that our platform met the strict security and compliance requirements the project demanded.

We provisioned the internet-facing security perimeter for the pricing platform, delivering next-generation threat management, web application control, deep packet inspection, and secure, agile connectivity to multiple cloud and on-premise environments. Policy enforcement was delivered via centralised egress to meet the insurer’s security and audit requirements.

The first platform tenant was live three weeks from first engagement. The standard security suite within the platform exceeded the insurer’s requirements, with policy easily augmented to fill gaps left by their security operations centre.

The impact

  • First platform tenant live in three weeks from first engagement, recovering a project that had already missed its go-live date
  • Customers now receive real-time insurance quotes via the channels they choose, including Compare the Market and other comparison platforms
  • Reusable architecture: the same model now supports connections to Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle as easily as the original AWS deployment, with consistent security policy across all environments
  • The platform now serves as the foundation for migrating other products, services and brands across the group onto a single centralised platform
