Q Doctor

Within one week of first engagement, Cloud Gateway had Q Doctor’s HSCN connectivity live on its platform – and within two days of deployment, 300 clinicians who had been sent home under Covid-19 government guidelines were back providing remote patient care through NHS Digital-approved video consultation tools.

reduction in face-to-face outpatient appointments – supporting NHS England’s target.

The Cloud Gateway team understood the need for a fast response in the current situation, and went above and beyond expectations to fast track onboarding. We are incredibly proud to support clinicians' ability to provide remote care during these unprecedented times. This is a key step to improving patient outcomes and reducing the need for face to face outpatient appointments now and in the future.

The challenge

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the entire NHS came under unprecedented pressure. Tens of thousands of clinicians who were otherwise able to work were sent home or self-isolating under government guidelines. At home, they did not have the physical hardware to securely log into clinical systems, and were not able to use personal devices to provide consultations or access patient records.

Q Doctor’s video consultation software, already in use across the NHS as a workforce solution, was approved by NHS Digital and NHS England for inclusion in an emergency framework designed to bring remote clinicians back into service. But Q Doctor’s existing HSCN connection had quickly become saturated under the new volume – and their incumbent provider could not scale capacity fast enough to meet Covid-19 demand.

What we did

We set up a working proof of concept within 10 minutes, using Cloud Gateway’s cloud-native connectivity platform. A new tenant with HSCN connectivity was provisioned and onboarded within one week of first engagement, connecting Q Doctor’s AWS-hosted software to the HSCN.

This included connection agreements, IP addressing, routing, and the visibility, security and guidance Q Doctor needed to deploy at speed.

The impact

  • HSCN connectivity proof of concept established in 10 minutes
  • Full platform tenant live within one week of first engagement
  • 300 clinicians enabled to provide remote patient care within two days of deployment
  • Supporting NHS England’s target of a 30% reduction in face-to-face outpatient appointments
  • Integration with Isosec Virtual Smartcard, enabling rapid access for staff using virtual desktop clients from home
